Intensive & Advanced – Priya Velan’s English Workshops @QEHBS11+
Navigating 11+: Tips for Tackling Homework
As a tutor with over nine years of experience, I can confidently assure you that my intensive and advanced English workshops cover an unparalleled range of topics within the 11+ English syllabus. Not only do these workshops surpass the offerings of other providers, but they can also be effectively managed by the student themselves, as I personally discuss every aspect of the weekly work with each of them.
It is no secret that many prestigious 11+ institutions are infamous for their demanding homework load, which can be particularly daunting for inexperienced parents. However, it is important to prioritize quality over quantity in this process. If you are a Year 4 starter, you have the advantage of being able to spread out the volume of work required for the 11+. If you are a Year 5 starter, it is imperative to work efficiently and effectively.
It is possible that your current tuition is attempting to provide a one-size-fits-all approach, with the expectation that you will select and manage the work on your own. If this is the case, I encourage you to reach out to them and discuss your specific needs and concerns. There are several strategies you can consider to tailor the workload to your requirements, including researching the target school’s exams, seeking guidance from your expert tutor, choosing to focus on the last third of questions or only the alternate questions to save time, and dividing the work into manageable chunks. Online resources such as Quizlet can also be useful for vocabulary practice.
Additionally, you may wish to politely seek advice from experienced parents who are specific to the schools you are targeting. It is important to keep in mind that what worked for them may not necessarily be the best fit for your child, so take all recommendations with a grain of salt.
With the right approach, your child will be able to complete this work in a quarter of the time by summer. Best of luck to you in this process!”
